Are you passionate about conservation and the power of technology? If so, we’re on the lookout for a skilled Backend Python Developer to contribute towards building a sustainable future for the business world.

This role is being offered up by a global data centre that believe in harnessing the potential of technology to advance biodiversity research and conservation efforts. The Digital Transformation team is at the forefront of innovation, leveraging Azure’s cloud infrastructure to build robust data pipelines that enable the analysis and interpretation of complex biological data for big businesses around the world. This is the team that you’ll be joining!

As a Backend Python Developer within the digital infrastructure team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining the data pipelines in Azure. Although the company isn’t primarily a Python house now, this role is a corridor for more Python projects, and they’re hoping to build out a team of Python developers soon!

  • Design and implement scalable and efficient web APIs using Python in an Azure environment.
  • Deliver on web applications in time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and ensure seamless integration of data pipelines and interfaces.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously enhance each products’ capabilities.

In terms of who I’m looking for, someone with these skills would be perfect:

  • Strong proficiency in Backend Python development (2-3+ years)
  • Experience with Azure services, particularly in building and deploying data pipelines (if you’ve used AWS and have knowledge of Azure, that’s cool too)
  • Ideally some knowledge of data modelling, ETL processes, and database management, although this isn’t a dealbreaker.
  • Familiarity with biodiversity data or a keen interest in the field is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Willing to travel into the office twice a month.

The office is based in Cambridge, and they’re looking for someone to come into the office twice a month for team events and get togethers. They’re looking to pay up to £44K for this role, so ideally someone mid-level with some experience to their belt would be great!
