REF:  2507794

Principal Software Engineer

Role: Principal Software Engineer (C#, .NET 8, Angular)

Location: Derbyshire office. Hybrid- twice per week in the office (ideally Mondays and Wednesdays)

Salary: up to £80k plus benefits.

You know your way around C#, .NET and the Microsoft ecosystem like the back of your hand. You know Angular like the back of your other hand.

You have had a lot of commercial experience in software engineering, and now want to apply it to a cool new project…

…look no further, this is the one for you!

Working with a small company in Derbyshire, I am looking for their next Principal Software Engineer to do a full, greenfield re-write of an existing data-capture system.

You will collaborate with their Head of Development/Lead Developer on things like high level architecture, to bounce ideas off, but ultimately, you’ll be very autonomous in this role. This is because their Lead Dev has a lot of development work elsewhere to do in the business, so you’ll be owning the development of this system.

The core tech stack they use across the business, and what you’ll be using in this role is:

  • C#, .NET 8
  • JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Angular
  • Entity Framework/SQL Server/ NoSQL

You will need to know, and have done, completely greenfield application development, ideally in a small team, where you’ve had a lot of exposure to the full development lifecycle. You’ll understand software architecture, have a mature and pragmatic approach to how/why you do things, and be able to work well, and happily, on your own.

They’re a lovely little company with lots to do, and like to have a good time whilst doing it! Friendly and approachable, you’ll learn a lot from their Head of Development – he has a lot of experience in the industry and has been a great mentor to a number of Devs I know.

If this sounds like a great time to you, then apply now, or drop me a line to find out more!

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.

Senior TypeScript Software Engineer

Role: Senior TypeScript Software Engineer (Svelte, SvelteKit, Node)

Location: Nottingham City Centre, hybrid- twice per week in the office.

Salary: £65k plus benefits, stock options

Have you been waiting for a new tech start-up to come to Nottingham with all their greenfield work, cool shiny tech, and infinite potential to make you filthy rich as one of their first hires?

Well, look no further: they’ve arrived!

Looking for what will be their 3rd dev (including a hands-on co-founder) you are a senior TypeScript Software Engineer with big aspirations. You live and breathe your craft: not satiated with your 9-5, you love tinkering with new tech in your free time and have come to have quite an affection for Svelte and SvelteKit, and have dabbled with AI stuff, too- Langchain is a particular favourite!

You know you’re a great engineer but feel your talents might be being wasted in your current role, where you’re siloed and don’t get to flex your creative development muscles anywhere near as much as you’d like…that is not the case here.

This is a true tech company- the tech is the business, so you’ll never be an afterthought: without you and your fellow software builders, the company can’t exist!

You’ll be treated as a founding member of the team, will have a big say in technical direction, will help build up the team, and be getting your hands dirty with lots of shiny, greenfield development-what’s not to love?!

This is a hybrid role, so you’ll be going into the office twice per week. It’ll be a great time to have social interactions with your team, share ideas, and feel the buzz of what you’re all creating!

At a glance, you’ll be great with:

  • TypeScript /JavaScript
  • Node
  • Ideally Svelte and SvelteKit, but React/Vue/Nuxt/Nextjs etc are fine
  • Tailwind
  • CSS

If you’ve got any experience with the following- commercial or personal- it would be very useful:

  • Langchain
  • OpenAI
  • Supabase
  • Kubernetes
  • Redis
  • GCP

If this sounds like the role you’ve been waiting for, apply now or drop me a line to find out more!

Senior Native Mobile App Developer

Role: Senior Native Mobile App Developer – Kotlin & Swift

Location:  Fully Remote – Office in Farnborough, Hampshire if you want to visit.

Salary: Up to around £80k, depending on experience. They would like to see a range of candidates, so if you would need more than this to consider the role, and you’re very experienced, please still apply!

No matter whether it’s iOS or Android, you’re the mobile dev go-to person.

You’re nimble with Swift and know almost everything there is to know about Kotlin.

You love them both, excel at development, and communicate superbly, too.

I am working with a fabulous start-up company that is really going places! They operate within the cyber security and tech insurance markets. They are growing at a good, steady pace, and are looking to bring more capacity into various functions across the company, including mobile development- there’s more work to do than they currently have the capacity for.

They have a mobile development contractor working with them at the moment, and they are exceptional, and well-known, in their industry, but with working part-time across a variety of customers, they can’t give enough time to my client to fulfil their needs, so they are looking to bring in a permanent member of the team to learn from, and ultimately take over from, the contractor.

Right now, they have a full technical roadmap drawn up for the app and are planning on a full UI overhaul- both structurally and visually. You’ll have lots to do from day 1 here- creating new features, making incremental improvements, and then you’ll embark on the rewrite.

Your communications skills will come to the fore in this role, as you’ll need to be able to work well alongside their contractor, disseminate knowledge across the existing tech team, and then be able to teach and mentor more junior people that you bring into the team, further down the line.

It’s important to keep in mind that they are a start-up and so a start-up mentality is crucial to be happy and successful here. You will be the type of person who loves to get stuck into any and all problems/ tasks that come your way, and aren’t the kind of person to say ‘that’s not my job’. As the company grows, so will your role, responsibilities, level of seniority, and salary.

At first glance, your expertise should shine through in Java and Kotlin, as well as Swift. While Objective-C isn’t mandatory, familiarity with it would be advantageous, as there’s still a bit of it lingering in their codebase.

If this seems like the role you’ve been waiting for, then apply now, or drop me a line to find out more!

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect regardless of background.

Do you enjoy working in fast-paced and dynamic company operating in the IoT industry. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative projects and contribute to the success of a growing business. This is the perfect role for someone who like autonomy in a role. If you have a background in embedded software this would be a ideal opportunity for you. If you’re excited about software development this is also a great indicator that this is the right role for you.

  • If you have a proven hands-on experience in software development.
  • Well-versed in React, Node.js, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS and REST APIs.
  • Proficient with C++ and relational databases.
  • Competent with TCP/IP, Ethernet networking and web socket development

Ruby on Rails Engineer

Role:  Ruby on Rails Engineer

Location: Hybrid, Cambridge 2 days per week (ideally, maybe more flexibility)

Salary: £50K – £60K + 12% pension, life insurance and more.

Are you someone who loves our planet and wants to do good in a role with a biodiversity-focused global organisation?

Would you like to do more with your technical skills? Are you somebody who’s dreamed of working to support and connect people and systems for the benefit of species conservation? Read on.

Thankfully, as you read this there are organisations already working on deeply detailed and technical systems aimed at recovering and regenerating ecosystems. These are essential in promoting collaboration and preventing biodiversity loss or limiting loss in scenarios where it is unavoidable.

These systems range from databases on endangered species and key biodiversity areas to things like tracking pollution, monitoring species and the recovery of regions or sites. They are integrated into companies, governments and organisations all over the world and help all to understand how ecosystems interact and influence one another and how we, as humans, can protect them.

A passion for nature or the environment more broadly will serve you well here, as a conservation org. they are hyper-focused on impact and making their work accessible, integrating partners and customers into their platform to expand who is making use of this data for decision-making.

The CIO here has real ambitions to see the tech evolve across this 2,000+ people org with ~10 regional offices and teams spread more broadly than that across biodiversity hotspots (physical & political). That includes hardware, software, data science, and the whole shebang.

So, what will you be doing specifically?

Building and maintaining the tech foundation that underpins a key database and platform. This will include investigating issues and implementing fixes to build in resilience and remove points of failure. You’ll also bring documentation up to standard; much was completed by consultants and wasn’t always updated by internal members of the team so there is some work to do in enabling the evolution of this platform and this may include switching to Python and Django or other technologies in the longer-term – 2+ years.

The skills priorities are Ruby on Rails and exp building APIs, exp with geospatial data and GIS tools is highly desirable. The role will be 80:20 backend : frontend, with some infrastructure and security tasks in there.

There are a number of partners who collaborate on various other interlinked tools, so cross-team collaboration experience will be beneficial. If you’ve touched on security or some DevOps tools and cloud technologies, but not extensively, there is support to grow your knowledge – in the form of partners/teammates and funding for courses, textbooks or other materials if needed.

It’s a small team of ~5, including the systems manager, that is part of a broader conservation tech ecosystem of 5-6 other teams and systems that occasionally collaborate or share resources, including with some of those partner orgs.

You’ll be involved with the design, review code and work closely with, scientists, ecologists, and climate researchers, prioritise work and engage some stakeholders or 3rd parties, also some internal teams such as GIS and data analysts and program managers to support them in delivering projects across various tiers of the conservation sector.

Interested in addressing biodiversity loss and turning things around? Do say hello 😊.

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.
