Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager

Location: Nottingham, hybrid role – expectation 1 day a week in the office

Salary: Up to 80k + bonus + 28 days hols + more!

Are you a lead developer, looking for that next step? Or already settled in an engineering manager role but would love to work at a bigger, more established local tech company renowned for hiring and developing some of the East Midlands’ brightest engineering talent?

This is a brand-new role which has been created through the continual growth of this business which has a diverse client base spanning multinational corporate firms through to fast-growing fintech and scale-up organisations.

People join this business for several reasons. The first is the culture and the people. As I have mentioned, they employ some of the brightest talents in the city and have increasingly attracted high-performing tech talent across the UK as they have undertaken a major tech modernisation programme over the last few years.

Secondly, they are committed to implementing industry-standard technology, methods and tools ” this has been a major push for them over the past 18 months or so.

Finally, the opportunity to grow. Many successful senior engineers and leaders have worked for the company over the past few years and had their formative experiences here. They’ve been exposed to entrepreneurial thinking and experienced rapid growth, acquisitions and continual change which has allowed them to push themselves, develop new skills and continually progress in their careers.

In this role, you will be heading up a team of 8 people using your people skills and energy to bring the team closer together and deliver objectives.

You won’t be required to be hands-on with the code, however, any experience in managing .NET full-stack development environments would be useful.

You will be used to being the most delivery-focused person in the engineering team, maintaining and improving sprint velocity, collaborating with the wider Product team and managing resources.

However, the core of this role is focused on mentoring and coaching the developers, so you must be comfortable leading technical discussions without getting lost in the detail.

Don’t worry if you don’t come from a C# background – this isn’t necessarily an issue. The Tech lead will always be on-hand to assist with code reviews and architectural planning!

The salary on offer is between 65k – 80k + bonus, 28 days holiday, vouchers, private medical/dental, death in service and half-yearly salary reviews.

GreenTech Lead React Native Engineer

GreenTech Lead React Native Engineer
Location: Remote, UK based

Salary: 80,000 – 100,000 + shares and benefits

How would you like to be part of the team that leads in cutting 8% of global emissions, while also tackling food poverty?

Living more sustainable lives isn’t hard but changing behaviours can be.

We’re working with a company enabling the redistribution of food that would otherwise go to waste and they’re already a global success with a web and mobile app live in 150 countries.

They’ve always been remote and do a lot to ensure their teams are not just succeeding in work but are genuinely happy, rather than overstretched.

The technical team stands at around 30, growing to ~40 in the coming 12-18 months, where everybody on the team contributes their own ideas, has a shared goal for the platform and most importantly, wants to make a difference.

The business has been defining its progress frameworks so that everyone knows how to advance their careers and grow.

Their mobile app is built with React Native and they need a mobile specialist to take technical leadership of the team, optimising the development process and delivering the best user experience possible while helping the team to grow.

They need someone who can contribute to architecture and refine the technical direction of a mobile app that one day hopes to have hundreds of millions of users, hosted on AWS.

Hopefully, you’ve worked on international apps and have addressed issues around latency and appreciation for differing infrastructures across regions. Their app has global users based in all kinds of locations from busy cities to quiet rural towns and villages.

You’ll need to have worked on the evolution of an app, refactoring and improving incrementally while adding new features, scaling up, and a solid understanding of Android and iOS store submission processes, push notifications and RESTful APIs.

Critically though, a passion for tackling the climate crisis is important. They want people who have a good awareness of the scale of the problem and the urgency with which we must act to overcome the challenges ahead.

What’s in it for you? Well, the list is too long to fit here. Alongside a good salary, the true freedom to work how you want to, no clock-watching and real progression, you’ll be joining an inclusive team that’s grown significantly in the last few years, is already changing the world and has its eyes set firmly on scaling their impact.

If this sounds appealing to you and you have some commercial experience with React, please hit apply and let’s have a chat.

Data Platform Engineer

Role:  Data Platform Engineer

Location: Nottingham

Salary: Up to 50k

Data, Data and more Data. You’ve been living and breathing these three words for the better part of your career.

Like The Faraway Tree book, (yes the one by Enid Blyton!!) you could have your pick of places you could go.

So, why should you come here?

Firstly, they are a close-knit team that loves getting stuck in and supporting each other. If collaboration is your middle name, this will be perfect for you!! They treat their staff well, and on meeting the staff they were actually a giggle (and I don’t always say that!)

If you are looking to be part of a fun team and have a bit of flexibility with the role, this could be right up your street! Although the standard working hours are 9-5.30 pm, the is the chance to work varied hours, many of them drop the kids off at nursery, arrive early and go home early, (or vice versa). 25 days holiday plus bank holidays are on offer, work-life balance”. Dare I say it, it does exist here!!

Being part of the Microsoft Data Cluster will give you chance to work with BIG DATA!! Bragging to your mates will be possible as you will be with a company that is 1, yes 1 of 70 companies to be involved in this project!

Rather than sitting back and being told how data should be policed, you will be working as a team to help define these policies!

They are realistic and don’t expect you to know everything. Automation is a key area that you will be able to dabble with and learn as you go along! Obviously, having dabbled or at least an interest in automation is helping yourself!!

At a glance it would be nice if you had any of the following:

✊  Powershell

✊  SQL

✊  Jenkins

What’s the catch?” I hear you ask. Fine, I knew you were too smart for me to hide something from.

If collaboration isn’t your middle name, then this probably isn’t the role for you, as you will be presenting your ideas to the team, and yes there may be criticism or questioning with regard to your methods and ideas. You need to be able to not throw your dummy out of the pram so to speak and to work together to move the role forwards!

Want to know a bit more?  Pop your CV over and I can tell you all about what’s on offer! ‘”

Software Engineer

Role:  Software Engineer

Location:  Fully remote, UK based

Salary:  Up to 90k (pension, professional development, flexibility, opportunity to use your powers for good and more)

If you are a skilled software engineer with a true passion for doing more for our planet in your next role, please read on!

I’d shout this company’s name from the rooftops if I could. Similar to the other environmentally focused companies and organisations we are lucky enough to collaborate with here at Rebel Sustainability, the company are doing fantastic work in creating data-informed pathways for protecting and restoring nature and its resources, as well as offering its clients the tools to follow through with long term restoration plans.

Whether it’s planting relevant seed species in an area via drone or collecting data about the condition of the soil or invasive weed species and using that for follow-up analysis, the work being done by the team you’d be joining is creating a real lasting impact for biodiversity.

Their priority is finding someone confident with automation and AWS. GCP, Azure and other cloud experience will be considered too as they are open-minded about the technical background they will consider. In the early days, you’ll be working on their CICD and data processing pipelines, refining and implementing high-performance pipelines, so this needs to be something you are comfortable with.

This isn’t a DevOps role, preference will be given to those with strong automation experience and cross-over with DevOps skills.

Their current stack involves AWS, Python/Django, and PostgreSQL, but if you’ve got the automation but little to no Python, that’s fine, as long as you’re willing to pick up new technical skills and arent absolutely wedded to your previous tech stack!

They are looking for a very skilled, passionate software engineer, a generalist who also cares about nature, who loves being in a team and who wants to be a part of taking their products and tools to the wider market, helping them evolve and grow as they continue to expand.

If this sounds like something that aligns with you, please apply. You can call us, email us, cause an electrical surge and short circuit our processes, you name it we will know it’s you!

GreenTech Senior QA Engineer

GreenTech Senior QA Engineer

Location: Remote within the UK

Salary: Up to 65K + equity & benefits, inc wellbeing allowance, pension & more.

Food waste accounts for roughly 8% of all global emissions. Between one-third and half of all food grown never enters a mouth, some rots in fields, some in warehouses, and lots goes furry at home or is sent to landfill.

Leading more sustainable lives isnt hard but changing behaviours can be.

How would you like to make it easy for folks to adapt those troublesome behaviours, with incredible social and environmental benefits?

Were working with a company tackling waste; food waste, furniture, books, equipment, clothing, you get the idea take resources that some people need, where others have plenty and create a space where both sides win.

Theyre already a global success with their web and mobile app live in ~140 countries.

Theyve always been remote and do a lot to ensure their teams are not just succeeding in work but are genuinely happy, rather than overstretched.

Youll be working with a technical team of around 25, growing to around 40 in the coming 12-18 months, where every single person on the team contributes their own ideas, has a shared goal for the platform and most importantly, wants to increase impact.

As a Senior QA Engineer you wont be having bugs, fixes or problems thrown at you. Rather youll be supporting the dev team to improve the quality of their testing, looking at how to automate out human error, contributing toward test strategy for growing to 10 million+ users in 12 months time, with ambitious aims through the rest of this Decade of Action.

Their tech stack includes a lot of Javascript, or Flow to be specific, ReactJS and React Native, Ruby on Rails, AWS with things like EC2, Lambdas, ECS, CICD with Circle CI, Terraform, Docker and more.

Priorities for this role are Javascript automation testing with Cypress, although experience working with React Native, iOS or Android mobile apps will stand out and good experience with exploratory testing is important.

So, youll do the heavy lifting when it comes to the more technical elements of QA, but youll also have a DevOps engineer to lean on and the 3 existing QA Engineers to understand how theyve gotten to where they are and thats certainly not a bad place.

But Im sure you can appreciate when a mobile and web app goes from having 6 million users, to aiming for 10, 20, 30 million users in the near future across global regions and varied infrastructure capabilities, there are some challenges.

So, if youve worked on web and mobile software with large volumes of users, lots of data being shared across systems and a scaling mindset, this one could be a good fit.

Now, the company aim to find people who are genuinely passionate about making our world a better place, theyll want to hear about why and what that means to you, and how youve engaged with the climate crisis or other social issues, but they also appreciate that many issues are systemic and while we have our part to play, that doesnt always mean buying an EV or solar panels.

SQL Support Analyst

Role: SQL Support Analyst

Location: You can be based from home with travel into Warwickshire once a month

Salary: £30k to £38k per annum (plus up to 10% bonus)

Data focused application support analysts, the world is burning and it’s time for you to step in! *cue hero music*

No more FinTech nonsense, no more going into the office every single day or else, no more being pushed around by a boss that doesn’t understand what you do….

“You aren’t doing your computer thingy quick enough…blah…money…blah blah…money”

It’s time to be a part of an organization set up to save the environment, one gram of waste at a time.

How?

By making sure that all the big names are complying with relevant environmental regulations and laws, and providing insights to the wider world about plastic waste.

In a perfect world customers use their software platforms without a hitch. Everything works perfectly and no-one is left wanting for anything.

However, in this cruel world we live in, software doesn’t always work as intended! Or customers have bespoke needs that need to be addressed.

This is where you come in. The hero of the hour (with Sql and Excel muscles rippling through your T-shirt).

Our perfect hero:

LOVES working with data.

Is like a child with tinsel at Christmas when it comes to automation, you want to put it EVERYWHERE.

Says stuff like “Look at these idiots plodding along with manual processes, I could just automate that”.

Falls in love with SQL (T-Sql ideally) more and more each day

Is the best ‘Excel’ person within their family/circle of friends

Ad hoc reporting whilst in the middle of a task makes your blood boil, but you can grit your teeth and get it done rather quickly…with a smile (fake or real, it doesn’t matter)

Can test stuff really well. In fact, you test to such a high degree that you know for a fact once it’s left your hands you know you are never seeing it again because that’s how perfect it is. Mummy would be so proud.

So how much is this hero going to get paid? £30k to £38k per annum (plus up to 10% bonus).

You can be based from home with travel into Warwickshire once a month or so (you’ll need to drive though, as the buses don’t reach this part of the world!).

So, if you want to know more give us a call or apply for a swift reply.

…and if you don’t want to know more then move along and click on the next advert. You’re clearly not the hero I need.

Ouch.

WHO THREW THE TOMATO?!

Native Android Mobile Developer

Role: Native Android Mobile Developer

Location: Loughborough, with up to 4 days per week WFH (working from home)

Salary: up to £60k plus benefits

Would you like to be a part of a small-but-growing company that makes really cool software and hardware for athletes?

Would it be nice to feel a part of something bigger than you, where your work really matters?

Are you at an agency and fed up with churning out small projects that you never see again?

If your answer to all, or some, of the above questions, is a hearty ‘YES!’ then read on…

I am working with a company who are going places and need you to join them to get them there faster!

I’m after a Native Android Mobile Developer to join their team, working alongside a lovely native iOS Developer, to add cool new features to their mobile application, predominantly using Kotlin.

You’ll mostly be focussing on the UI / Front End side of the mobile app, as that’s where most of their work to be done is, currently. So, an eye for a good layout and user-friendliness is going to be useful!

Due to the nature of what they do, they use Bluetooth tech, mainly BLE, so any experience or knowledge of this would be great!

They are a small, fun team who gets along well and love what they do. They meet up in the Loughborough office every week and so would love you to come in with the same frequency, too, to keep the community feeling they’ve got going on!

If this sounds right up your street, apply now or drop me a line to find out more!

Senior Full Stack C# Blazor Software Engineer

Role: Senior Full Stack C# Blazor Software Engineer

Location: Hammersmith, London is where their office is, but the role can either be hybrid if you live nearby and want to go in, or fully remote if you don’t live close by or just don’t want to go into the office!

Salary: up to £90k

How does a Senior C# Software Engineer role with brand new tech, complete flexibility around working arrangements, only greenfield work to do, and lots of financial backing sound to you?

Too good to be true?

Well, you better believe it because IT IS TRUE 🙂

I’m working with a brilliant, small but growing company who are looking to build a development team. They have a Lead Dev joining them in a month’s time, and so I’m now looking for another couple of devs to join them. It’s a magical time to join them in their journey!

The company is around 6 years old and is in the private GP space. They were, before the pandemic, completely an in-person GP service. During the pandemic, the business grew exponentially through offering Covid testing at a time of great need, and now as we come through the other side of Covid, they have realised that patients’ situations have changed and more and more people want a seamless experience of what they want when and where they want it; a blending between virtual appointments (phone/ video calls), online bookings, and in-person appointments.

So this is where they are headed, and they need you to help make it happen!

The initial work they have is to build out two main systems- one internal and one external. Do not fear though, they have plenty of work to do for the medium and long term after these projects are completed!

The tech stack they use is; C# .Net Core, Blazor, Entity Framework, HTML/CSS, JavaScript/ TypeScript, React/ Vue.

The beauty of the role is the autonomy over projects, trust, and the massive amount of input you’ll have in technical decision-making here.

It is a very small team right now, so you’ll need to be experienced enough to be happy working on your own with support from their Lead Developer. You can put ALL the skills you’ve got into practice here- no pigeon-holing or red tape preventing you from what you want to do, no waiting for months to get a new feature added- they are small and nimble, and very able and willing to move quickly and do things the right way.

The founder comes across as a very intelligent, friendly and likeable chap with a great vision for the company and the offering they have for their patients.

If this sounds like something you’d love to be a part of or to find out more about, drop me a line and we can get the ball rolling on your new role!

Full Stack Software Engineer

Role: Full Stack Software Engineer

Location/ working arrangement: Nottingham City Centre/ fully remote- NO regular office visits

Salary: up to £60k plus great benefits and 20%+ bonus

Hello there!

I am lucky to have some really great roles with a lovely FinTech company in Nottingham, who have fully embraced proper fully remote working (or what is sometimes also called remote first/ fully distributed working model) to make the work/ life balance of their employees as good as possible.

They are great to recruit for, and to work for there is really interesting and rewarding work that adheres to best practices, a bunch of really friendly and welcoming people who are fantastic at what they do, and great benefits that make you feel looked after, properly flexible working practices, and a company that does the right thing.

The only downside to them that I’m aware of is that they are in a regulated industry and so might not be for everyone. They are also a medium-sized company, so again, if you’re after a brand-new start-up or a large corporate, they won’t be the one for you.

They use C# .Net Core and JavaScript/ TypeScript for their full-stack development, with Node and React as their JS/ TS frameworks/ libraries of choice. Azure is their public cloud provider of choice and they use it heavily, so all their technical roles are great for cloud exposure, if this is something you’re after in your next role.

As they are growing and will continue to grow, at a relatively rapid rate, the progression routes with them are really fabulous- they encourage an entrepreneurial spirit amongst their teams, and ideas to move the company or culture forward are very welcomed.

If this sounds good to you, apply now or drop me a line to find out more
