Location: Fully remote within occasional trips to Scotland.

Like so many things, there are obvious solutions staring us in the face, but it takes a brave and bold few to embrace the challenge and attempt to turn the tide.

This company is a purpose-driven endeavour. Honestly they’re looking to change the world. For the past 10 years they’ve been working day and night to develop their (quite frankly astonishing) products and services, and they’re on the cusp of something special.

However, to take that next jump, they need an accomplished software delivery professional to join them and help drive their suite of digital products and services, to complement their engineering-based solutions.

You’d work with the teams of third parties who up until now have developed their software, leading analysis and engagement, and driving delivery.  You’ll be regarded as the company chief digital authority, developing strategy and providing insights to the leadership team and high-profile customers.

Your projects will vary, from IoT/hardware control systems through to data-science and SaaS platforms.

You won’t be doing any programming or directly managing engineers (at least for the medium term) but you will have worked in heavily technical environments where you have been responsible for making sure key software projects are specced, resourced and delivered effectively (and to budget).

It’s going to be a multi-faceted role drawing on your technical, project delivery, stakeholder management, commercial and strategic skills, and given the company is still relatively small you will need to love being in the thick of the action and rolling your sleeves up to support the company mission as is required.

You’ll have worked previously a Software Engineering Manager, Delivery Manager or Specialist Software Project Manager, ideally with a technical background that includes some SaaS and/or Data Science experience.

Any previous experience within the shipping industry would be great, along with some previous start-up/scale-up exposure.

You will likely be a passionate supporter of the sustainability movement or at least have a genuine interest in working for a purpose-driven company.

CONTRACT Technical Product Owner

I’m working with a tech company with an office in Nottingham, which is growing and has gone global through acquisition. You’ll be part of a huge transformational programme that is currently kicking off which is going to last at least 2-3 years. They need a veteran contractor to help with the bottleneck of work that they currently have as the project has already gone live!

I’m looking for a Technical Product Owner who can look at the overall design and build of the software, you’ll need to come from a SaaS background and have experience of working with technical teams (ideally, you’ll understand and can talk code with developers). As you’ll be working with a global team and therefore there will be some meetings after 6:00 pm with the tech team based in the States.

They need you to join them, working alongside developers, Product Managers and Senior Stakeholders, to allow them to continue to deliver projects efficiently, on time, and as smooth operators.

Ideally, you’ll be PRINCE2 qualified, and be coming from a tech background yourself. They use the Microsoft tech stack at this company, so anything around C#, .Net, Azure, SQL Server, etc. would be useful!  No need to worry if not, provided you’re used to working on projects with tech/ IT departments and the people within them, understanding the lingo, and the domain.

Working in an Agile environment, you’ll be very delivery-focused, and hungry to learn!

IT Delivery Manager

This company is undergoing rapid and ambitious IT change, and there is just too much work for their existing PM, so they are looking for another PM to join them in what will be a multifaceted IT PM role, where a large part will involve business analysis and requirement gathering.

As this is a brand-new role, this is a great opportunity to make the position your own – you will be working alongside the other senior MM who will largely leave you to your own devices to deliver small-medium sized projects independently.

You will take full responsibility for ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget, conducting the project initiation and review meetings with various internal departments and suppliers.

Working with the IT service delivery manager you will be ensuring that the output of all the projects is transitioned seamlessly into BAU, so you will ideally have worked on IT Infrastructure projects (such as Office 365 migrations, service improvement projects and software/site upgrades).

Working with a fabulous company in Nottingham, I am looking for a talented and enthusiastic Project Manager to join their growing team! The reason for this role is that the company has recently won several meaty contracts; they haven’t got enough capacity existing in-house to get everything done that they want to, so are bringing more people on board.

They are a digital and communications agency company that works with many different clients so the work is varied and interesting. GreenTech Technical Delivery Lead

GreenTech Tech Delivery Lead

Location: Fully remote within Europe, +/- 1 hour of CET.

Vegetation management. Harder than it sounds. Cut too much; cause unnecessary damage, too little and the risk of wildfire or damage to infrastructure can be devastating and costly.

Vegetation management may not sound that exciting but building earth observation software to integrate satellite imagery with geospatial analysis and Machine Learning with data coming in from teams, remote sensors and other hardware on the ground presents interesting challenges! 

These systems are used to efficiently manage resources and team activities, saving time and money.

Most importantly though, this protects as much nature as possible while saving homes, businesses, and services from blackouts caused by seasonal and extreme weather events. Literally improving energy and climate resilience.

The company have grown rapidly since the end of 2021. There are ~60 people now, with around 30 of those in development and geospatial / data science.

The data science team are growing to increase the capacity of their systems for their existing clients, and to meet demand as new clients with ever-more-interesting requirements come online. They need someone to support these efforts to utilise the tools they’ve built to bring value from satellite imagery and other geospatial datasets, analysing those using machine learning, and delivering the end results to customers.

You’ll work with commercial teams and customers to understand their needs, what existing solutions can be applied, what’s already planned and in development and what future capabilities can be delivered. You’ll design bespoke solutions and wrangle the necessary people to deliver those.

Also, supporting software engineering and data science teams to improve and create products and tools, define risk, strategy and resource management alongside executing delivery plans in line with estimations.

This role is somewhat hybrid, touching on technical project management, with some hands-on work using Python and Jupyter notebooks to implement fixes, optimise and configure tools and generally tie off loose ends where needed, so you’ll be ~30% hands-on.

Commercial remote sensing experience and satellite imagery exp are a huge benefit, but having experience with Python and Jupyter Notebooks is a must, and they’re keen to speak with people who’ve worked at start-ups or small companies where close customer relationships and interaction are/were the norm. 

Predominantly they use Python, but they also work pretty heavily with GIS technologies and tools. They also use PyTorth and Tensorflow, so experience with similar frameworks or libraries will be transferrable, especially if you have that remote sensing, geospatial or satellite data exp.

There will be projects that others lead, and you review or support, but you will take the lead on lots of different projects, some small, some larger. The team are friendly and passionate, and the company are supportive with good benefits including equity, so you’ve bought into any future success.

One of the UK’s most successful sustainability companies has asked us to help them find a standout Director of Software Engineering as they go through a period of change and gear up for international expansion.

The company are flying high right now, having grown continually over the past decade and now looking at further growth globally into new territories whilst developing new products and services within the sustainability sector.

They have a longstanding team of software engineers, product managers and industry consultants, but having been integrated into a larger group a few years ago, the leadership of the software engineering function has fluctuated as people have moved upwards and onwards.

The company are now ready to hire two dedicated roles –  a Director / Head of Software Engineering (this role) and also a Software Delivery Manager (who will work with you, directly line managing the dev team).

In this Head of Software Engineering role you’ll work with the senior group leadership team, internal product managers and the wider business to grow and maintain the technology that underpins their core services.

They are determined to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to technology and you’ll be leading the teams in building their flexible, scalable, modern platforms.

You’ll have worked in a similar mid-sized (200 person +) company and will have managed the development of high volume/availability data and software platforms, preferably based on the Microsoft stack (.NET, Azure, Microsoft Dynamics CRM etc.).

As an experienced senior manager, you’ll be used to being the voice of software engineering within the business, ensuring cultural, technical and structural alignment.  You’ll be a leader who inspires and brings the best out of your team whilst being able to manage ongoing commercial, security, regulatory and quality/compliance considerations.

The business is known to be somewhere that takes care of its people and gives them a chance to show what they can do and to progress.  They want to build on this culture of low attrition and progression by hiring you, someone who is able to combine building engineering cultures that people love working within whilst still being absolutely determined to hit deadlines and business objectives.
