IT Manager

Role:  IT Manager

Location:  Nottingham

Working Model:  Office Based

Salary: Up to £55k, Negotiable – Based on Experience

Are you looking for that fully hands-on role in which you will be able to get involved in all aspects of tech?  Are you an IT Manager who likes to be involved in running projects and overseeing the company’s infrastructure?

You will ideally have worked in an SME and be used to undertaking a variety of work within your role. You will work closely with the stakeholders and be able to identify and suggest requirements that may be needed within the business.

You will have a small team that you will be responsible for, including a developer, so if coding is a hobby, you may have the opportunity to put this into practice if you wish. They are currently going through an implementation, so if you have exposure to working with an ERP system, it’s a bonus. As is experience with SQL.

Location:  Derbyshire, Birmingham or Northamptonshire

Working Model:  Hybrid – 3 Days/week in one of three offices

Salary:  Up to £70k + Excellent Benefits

You really know your stuff when it comes to Customs and Excise regulations.

You’ve worked as a Customs Manager for years, educating and training colleagues and ensuring your busy logistics operation stays compliant, and policies and procedures are implemented and followed.

But you’re now looking for a chance to kick on.  In your current place, it’s a case of dead-mans-shoes; you can’t move up or progress until someone else moves on.

Not here.  This is one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies and with the business predicted to double in size pretty soon, there’ll be loads of opportunity for you to impress and move up in the business.

This business has been going through a period of rapid expansion over several years, and there’s no sign of slowing down.  But that means there’s always a lot going on, so people who work here need to be proactive and make things happen.

So in this role, you’ll need to be a strong character, able to negotiate and influence effectively whilst building relationships at all levels.

You’ll manage a small team, so you also need to be an effective leader; someone who can lead by example in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial culture.

The role is hybrid-based, with three days working in one of their offices in Derbyshire, Birmingham, or Northamptonshire. It will also involve some travel.

Lead Software Architect

Role:  Lead Software Architect

Location: Hybrid, Cambridge 2 days per week (ideally, maybe more flexibility)

Salary: Up to £75K + 12% pension, life insurance and more.

Are you someone who loves our planet and wants to do good in a role with a biodiversity-focused global organisation?

Would you like to do more with your technical skills? Are you somebody who’s dreamed of working to support and connect people and systems for the benefit of species conservation? Read on.

Thankfully, as you read this there are organisations already working on deeply detailed and technical systems aimed at recovering and regenerating ecosystems. These are essential in promoting collaboration and preventing biodiversity loss or limiting loss in scenarios where it is unavoidable. These systems range from databases on endangered species and key biodiversity areas to things like tracking pollution, monitoring species and the recovery of regions or sites. They are integrated into companies, governments and organisations all over the world and help all to understand how ecosystems interact and influence one another and how we, as humans, can protect them.

A passion for nature or the environment more broadly will serve you well here, as a conservation org. they are hyper-focused on impact and making their work accessible, integrating partners and customers into their platform to expand who is making use of this data for decision-making.

The CIO here has real ambitions to see the tech evolve across this 2,000+ people org with ~10 regional offices and teams spread more broadly than that across biodiversity hotspots (physical & political). That includes hardware, software, data science, and the whole shebang.

So, what will you be doing specifically?

Designing, building and maintaining the tech foundation that underpins a key database and platform. This will include investigating issues and implementing fixes to build in resilience and remove points of failure. You’ll also bring documentation up to standard; much was completed by consultants and wasn’t always updated by internal members of the team so there is some work to do in enabling the evolution of this platform and this may include switching to Python and Django or other technologies in the longer-term – 2+ years.

The skills priorities are Ruby on Rails and exp building APIs, exp with geospatial data and GIS tools is highly desirable. The role will be 70:30 Backend : Leadership, with some infrastructure and security tasks in there.

There are a number of partners who collaborate on various other interlinked tools, so cross-team collaboration experience will be beneficial. If you’ve touched on security or some DevOps tools and cloud technologies, but not extensively, there is support to grow your knowledge in the form of partners/teammates and funding for courses, textbooks or other materials if needed.

Experience Required:

  • Ruby on Rails – Backend focused
  • PostgreSQL
  • Docker
  • DevOps – AWS
  • Leadership Experience

It’s a small team of 5, including the systems manager, that is part of a broader conservation tech ecosystem of 5 to 6 other teams and systems that occasionally collaborate or share resources, including with some of those partner orgs.

You’ll be involved with the design, review code and work closely with, scientists, ecologists, and climate researchers, prioritise work and engage some stakeholders or 3rd parties, as some internal teams such as GIS and data analysts and program managers to support them in delivering projects across various tiers of the conservation sector.

Interested in addressing biodiversity loss and turning things around? Do say hello 😊.

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.

Staff Engineer  – Climate Tech

Role:  Staff Engineer  – Climate Tech

Location:  Fully Remote but you have to be based in the East Coast, USA, or Mainland Europe

Salary:  Up to £150k with generous benefits + equity

*PLEASE NOTE: Python/FastAPI + React/Typescript expertise is essential*

Wow.

That’s how we felt after the briefing call with the Head of Engineering.  Why? Because this opportunity really does have everything.

Work with a purpose that is changing the world for the better? Check.

Backed by serious investment whilst also doubling revenue YoY? Check.

Remote work, with super-talented colleagues spread across the globe? Check.

Great pay, benefits and culture?  Check, check, check!

This *ridiculously* cool climate-tech company is at the start-up/scale-up inflection point.

They’re moving past the days where problems were solved with unstructured grit, where intuition and random brilliance were the order of the day.  They’re now looking for sanity and scalability, and you’ll play a leading role in this transformation.

Their team develops a unique product that helps organisations proactively monitor and manage one of the major (and up until now, less-addressed) effects of climate change.  It is a devastating problem that is wreaking havoc across the world, but with the products you’ll be developing you’ll directly be contributing to a safer and more stable world.

With a new round of investment and new customers signing up for their groundbreaking product, they are on the cusp of a major recruitment drive, but none of their roles are more important than this Chief Software Engineer role.

Currently, they have a talented team of software engineers with a front-end bias, and little in the way of deep Python software development experience.  With these roles, they want to help balance this, by hiring a super-capable Chief Software Engineer with expert-level proficiency in full-stack, cloud-driven (GCP, Azure or AWS) development in React, Angular or Typescript along with Python/FastAPI (this is vital).

You must also have a genuine interest in the sustainability movement and working for a company that is mission-driven as you’ll be working with super-passionate people who care deeply about our planet.

You’ll have no formal line management responsibilities in this role but will lead/coach the team and drive the adoption of industry-leading technology and standards across the engineering team.  You’ll be a flexible and sensitive technical leader, able to win over colleagues who are working through this cultural and technical transition using your excellent relationship-building, leadership and collaboration skills.

The role will be remote based with occasional travel into London and/or Amsterdam, and you can be based anywhere in the US, mainland Europe or on the East Coast of the US (but able to be flexible to GMT/CET working patterns).

On offer is a salary of up to £150k with generous benefits + equity.

Please apply to find out if you might be suitable (all our applicants are screened by an experienced, human recruiter and not AI)

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.

Business Systems Technical Director

Role: Business Systems Technical Director Salesforce, NetSuite

Location & Working Model: 1 Day/week in London Office

Salary: Up to £110k plus excellent benefits

How does joining a well-established and market-leading, global, and growing SaaS company sound to you?

How about a role that combines your technical knowledge and hands-on expertise with your strategy and technical business skills?

Like what you’re reading? Then read on, I’m excited for you!

I am working with a really lovely company that are not only excellent at what they do, but rather unique, too!

They are a global company with a remote-first mentality. For a role at this level of seniority though, they would prefer you to go into their London once per week, to foster collaboration- this role will see you working with a lot of other teams and departments, which is so much easier when done in person!

This is a broad role that encompasses the management of the key systems that enable the effective day-to-day operation of the business: you will have your fingers in many proverbial pies here: liaising with various departments and teams, including development, product, sales, data and finance: as a leader in the business systems team- you’ll be the glue that holds these teams together.

You’ll be a technical authority, making sure that good engineering standards are met and maintained, technical direction is set and followed, and best architectural practice is adhered to. This is a great time to join in this position, as you’ll be pivotal in taking the company to its next phase of growth- having a significant say in the technical direction in the business systems team.

To do this with the gravitas needed, you’ll have an excellent technical background, specialising in business systems that include Salesforce, NetSuite and ZAB.

Your communication skills will be second to none. Adept at building relationships and sharing ideas across all levels of stakeholders, you’ll be great at translating technical jargon to non-technical people, garnering respect from others in the business, and leading with integrity.

This client has global offices, with 3 in the UK in the south of England, including London. For a role at this level of seniority, it would be preferred for you to spend one day per week in the London office for collaboration

If this sounds like what you’ve been waiting for, then apply now! If you want to find out a bit more first, contact me and we can have a chat.

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.

Software Delivery Manager – Sustainability

Software Delivery Manager – Sustainability

Location: Fully remote within occasional trips to Scotland.

Salary: Circa €70K + bonus + share scheme + private health.

Fun fact for the day: Global shipping contributes 3% of the world’s carbon emissions.  That’s the same as the *whole* of Europe’s largest economy, Germany.  It’s an industry that relies heavily on the cheapest and dirtiest fossil fuel: crude oil.  And use is predicted to rise, fast, unless someone does something about it.

Like so many things, there are obvious solutions staring us in the face, but it takes a brave and bold few to embrace the challenge and attempt to turn the tide.

This company is a purpose-driven endeavour. Honestly they’re looking to change the world. For the past 10 years they’ve been working day and night to develop their (quite frankly astonishing) products and services, and they’re on the cusp of something special.

However, to take that next jump, they need an accomplished software delivery professional to join them and help drive their suite of digital products and services, to complement their engineering-based solutions.

You’d work with the teams of third parties who up until now have developed their software, leading analysis and engagement, and driving delivery.  You’ll be regarded as the company chief digital authority, developing strategy and providing insights to the leadership team and high-profile customers.

Your projects will vary, from IoT/hardware control systems through to data-science and SaaS platforms.

You won’t be doing any programming or directly managing engineers (at least for the medium term) but you will have worked in heavily technical environments where you have been responsible for making sure key software projects are specced, resourced and delivered effectively (and to budget).

It’s going to be a multi-faceted role drawing on your technical, project delivery, stakeholder management, commercial and strategic skills, and given the company is still relatively small you will need to love being in the thick of the action and rolling your sleeves up to support the company mission as is required.

You’ll have worked previously a Software Engineering Manager, Delivery Manager or Specialist Software Project Manager, ideally with a technical background that includes some SaaS and/or Data Science experience.

Any previous experience within the shipping industry would be great, along with some previous start-up/scale-up exposure.

You will likely be a passionate supporter of the sustainability movement or at least have a genuine interest in working for a purpose-driven company.

The team are friendly and passionate, and the company are supportive with great benefits including a share scheme and possible bonus, so you’ll bought into any future success.

Longer term, the company are expecting to make several hires in 12-18 months, so there will be an opportunity to help shape this growth and potentially grow a small in-house team.

Although the role is remote, the company would strongly prefer to hire someone who lives in Scotland as they are likely to be opening up a Scotland office soon and quarterly meetings will be help there.

So, do you want to use your skills to help make a significant dent in the climate crisis? Well, what are you waiting for?

We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.

Global Head of Business Development

Role:  Global Head of Business Development – Hosting / Telco

Location:  Remote, Europe

Salary:  £120 – £150k

You’re a high-flying Business Development expert within the Telco / Hosting market.

Whatever you’ve done and wherever you’ve gone in your career, you’ve achieved results that have surprised others…But not you.

You know that, in the right environment and working with a great team, you are unstoppable.

What you are now looking for is something potentially really big.  A chance to make your mark at a hugely successful company but with even bigger ambitions.

This place already has a ridiculous track record of growth and success, but the new leadership team want to take things to a new level.

Global domination?  Shhh.  Whisper it quietly.

Even though this companies already boasts 9-figure turnover, this role will have a similar feel to that of working in a start-up in many ways, as they look to mature and bring together their people, processes and technologies from years of successful acquisitions.

Your role in this process is to work with your senior director to launch a global new business drive for the business.  They want you to be involved in everything as part of this process, from hunting for new mega-brand clients, through to sales enablement and reviewing their CRM platform.

Your role will involve a mixture of strategy development, key partnership development and new business acquisition.

Another key element of this role will involve identifying new market segments, verticals, and territories for expansion wherever and whatever they may be – all cards are on the table (as long as your suggestions are backed up by meticulous data and research of course).

In the long term your team will continue to expand based on the foundation you lay down, with the plan to hire 3 sales leads into your team as soon as is feasible.  However, initially your role will be focused on achieving 15% sales growth through new business so you need to be a hunter; someone completely comfortable in a role where all eyes will be on you to see what logos you can bring on board.

You’ll want to join because of the possibilities.

You’ll want to stay because this company never stops…and your name will be up in lights as one of the key players in their global expansion story.

You can expect a terrific package consisting of a base salary in the region of £120k – £150k + highly attractive performance-related bonuses and share options.

The role can be based from home, anywhere in Europe, but with travel to clients across EMEA, APAC and the US when required (though it would be preferred for you to be based in the UK, Germany or France).

Tech Lead

Role:  Tech Lead – TypeScript, AWS

Location:  Office in Leicestershire. Hybrid working model of 1-2 days per week in the office, the rest is working from home.

Salary:  Up to £95k plus bonus and benefits

You’ve got bags of passion and experience not only in creating excellent technical solutions but also in turning teams around.   You take all their bad habits and introduce great ones.  You coach, you mentor, you inspire.

Bringing all of this knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to the fore, this role will challenge you in the best way and be so rewarding.

I am working exclusively with a fabulous tech company that enriches the lives of the people it serves: the incredible people who protect the community.

I am looking for you: someone who is exceptionally skilled with technology and leading teams.  For you, best practice around software engineering and cloud engineering is your de facto way of doing things:  You can turn your hand to whatever problem you encounter because you have the fundamentals down to a tee.

Experience-wise, you have been in teams where they have been using waterfall-y ways of product development, working with monolithic architectures, messy code bases, and unhelpful silos. You have been pivotal in turning those teams around to use iterative, Agile ways of working, especially continuous development (CD) practices, and fostered a collaborative culture of bringing people from product/ development/ QA, etc. together to reduce release lead times and catch potential issues/ bugs before they become problematic.

Most importantly of all, you’ve inspired a culture of curiosity- experimenting, iterating, and improving how your team do things, from finding and fixing bugs, to how they develop and implement new features.

In this role, you’ll be doing this all again in an environment that’s open and hungry for positive change!

You will technically be leading a team of 5 engineers, alongside a Product Manager, and will be very hands-on with around half your time spent on development and architecture, and the other half of your time spent in planning sessions, coaching the team, doing code reviews, building a team and architecture roadmap, etc.

If this sounds right up your street, apply today, or drop me a line to find out more!
